With 200 members, today PMI Adelaide is the fastest growing chapter in Australia. Run by volunteers, the chapter provides the means for members to meet with peers from various industries and improve their project management knowledge and skills through monthly events, special workshops, newsletter publications and an annual project management conference.
The Melbourne Chapter serves the state of Victoria and was initially formed in 1995 and registered with the PMI on 1st January 1996. The Chapter members are employed across all industries with a majority in the Information Technology and Telecommunications fields.
PMI Queensland Chapter members are employed by some of Queensland largest and most prominent organisations, and the Chapter encourages business and governement alike to invest in their project management community by becoming involved.
PMI commenced in Australia in 1997 and and held its first Chapter Meeting on the 15th April, 1997. Today the Chapter has more than 1700 members from a mixture of industries including: finance, IT, telecommunications, consulting and pharmaceutical. Approximately 50% of Australian PMI's members are credentialed as Project Management Professionals (PMPs). PMI is strongly supported by a majority of companies in Australia and internationally.

Early in 2001, a group of Project Managers, felt there was a strong need for a Western Australian chapter of PMI to promote Project Management best practice and PMI in Western Australia. Following a successful PMI WA launch meeting in November 2001, the chapter was chartered in December 2001, with 28 members. Today we have more than 500 members!
